We have been developing research based resources and services on adolescent reproductive health issues since 1996. The Champa / Paro / Shankar methodologies were designed as easy to use generic resources. These kits are being used by a number of large scale ARH projects, as well as small organisations who are in the process of building their skills. |

The Sahas project is implemented by Tata Steel Family Initiatives Foundation and Tribal Cultural Society. The project adolescents aged 14-18 years, living in nearby residential and slum areas, as well as those whose parents work in the company. Specific objectives for its education and health service program are preventing / minimizing child marriage, unwed pregnancies, deaths of young mothers, gender based violence, STIs and HIV. The project adopted the Paro/Shankar methodology for ARH education. Thoughtshop Foundation provided TOT for the health workers in use of the kits. |

To improve the reproductive health facilities in 3 districts, the Government of West Bengal, with support from DFID, implemented the West Bengal Reproductive and Child Health Project. The important components of the project were provision of safe abortion services, contraceptive social marketing and adolescent health care. The government health workers adopted the Champa/Shankar methodology for ARH education. Thoughtshop Foundation provided a series of TOTs for the government health workers in use of the kits. |

This project aimed to incorporate reproductive and general health curriculum into Girl Guides and Boy Scouts programmes in seven project communities in West Bengal, along the Eastern and South-Eastern Railways. The project aim was to train 900 Guides/Scouts peer educators through a series of health education activities, each of whom would make 25 contacts, reaching as many as 22,500 young people. The project adopted the Champa/Shankar methodology for RH education of the peer educators. Thoughtshop Foundation provided TOTs for the health workers in use of the kits. |

The Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust initiated a pilot project exclusively on health and development of adolescents, focused on 13 - 19 year olds, addressing their overall health and developmental needs. This project adopted the Paro/Shankar methodology. Thoughtshop Foundation field tested the kits and provided orientation training for the health workers in their use. |
The Ask Project Askline, a free tele-counselling service for young people, was initiated by Thoughtshop Foundation in October 1999, at a time when no such service existed in the region. In 5 years, Askline logged over 10,000 calls on issues related to sexuality, HIV/AIDS and other adolescent problems. All calls were documented and analysed to plan different kinds of intervention strategies, including Ignited Minds, the It's My Life series of workshops and the HIV Kit. (1999-2005)

| Mass Media Campaigns |
Newspaper Series: Ask Columns Thoughtshop Foundation ran a monthly interactive feature called ASK (AIDS, Sex and Knowledge for young people), in a leading English newspaper, to answer young people's questions on HIV/AIDS and reproductive health. The overwhelming response to this feature led to a compilation called the Ask booklet, which is still popular among students. (March 1995- June 1996)

Radio Series: Gyaner Alo Zindabad This was a 12-episode radio programme on HIV/AIDS awareness for young people. This programme was conducted in Bengali, and involved young people from different schools and institutions in a quiz on HIV/AIDS. Listeners could also call in with their queries on HIV/AIDS, some of which were aired on the programme. (Aired from April - June 2001. Supported by DFID and State AIDS Prevention and Control Society)

Workshops We conduct participatory ARH and Family life Education programmes with schools, colleges, youth clubs and communities. Different methodologies are used with different target groups, ranging from comprehensive 6-day sessions to short 3 hour interactive workshops. (2002 Ongoing)

Needs Assessment Study Young People's Sexual Health Project in West Bengal We conducted a needs assessment study on young people's sexual health awareness in West Bengal. The study included boys and girls in the age group of 12-19. School and non-school going youth, in both urban and rural areas were covered. The study conducted in 1997 helped guide our youth programme. (Researched in 1997 in collaboration with AIMS Research. Supported by the West Bengal Sexual Health Project, DFID)
